Inguru


Botanical Name             : Zingiber officinate roscoe
Family                            : Zingiberaceae

Morphology             : It is a perennial herb with a rhisomatons stem. Leaves are attached to a   leafy stems formed by the leaf sheaths.The herb developeds several lateral shoots in clumps whch begin to dry when the plant matures. Leafy stems reaching up to 90cm in height under cultivation. Leaves simple, long and 2-3cm broad with sheathing bases. The blade gradually tapering to a point.
Chinese inguru

This is produced big rhizomes. Kernal is yellow.

Plant material

Vegetative propagation is by portions of rhizomes known as seed pieces.

Time of planting

End of March or beginning of April.

Land preparation and cultivation

When inguru cultivate 90cm wide and 22cm deep trenches are made. The bottoms of these trenchers are covered with 15cm thick layer of straw or paddy husk. This is a covered with a mixture of soil and compost. The cut pieces are planted 5-10cm deep keeping a spacing of 25-45cm between rows and 15-20cm between the plants.
Mulching is recommended to conserve the moisture and minimize weed growth. The shoots emerge from the ground approximately 2 weeks after planting. Ginger is not desirable to grow on the same site repeatedly crop rotation is recommended.

Soft rot

This is caused by bacterial and fungus crop rotation correct crops and seeds selection. Seed treatments and irrigation are control measures.

Leaf spot
